What is the worst damage you have done to a FunCub? The other day, we took our FunCub out. Becoming somewhat careless, we topped some maple tree branches. Luckily the airplane pulled through and clear of the tree branches, but was left spinning towards the ground nose first. We were able to pull the FunCub out of the spin just before touching the ground, only to tap the main wheels on the top of a chain-link fence climbing back upward. We had the landing gear mod attached, but only the rear brace wire screw/washer holding it in place, not the screw that holds in the front gear wire. The gear snapped off when it contacted the fence and we were now flying a "retractible" gear version, or no-gear version of the FunCub. It looked rediculous with only the tailwhee hanging off the rear end! We were still airborne after what seemed to be the impossible, so decided to fly the rest of the battery power out and gear-up landed on it's belly. Miraculously no damage was done to either gear mod or plastic retainer bracket besides a metal rub mark on the plastic retainer! What's your favorite FunCub story?

On Dec. 3rd, I went to the local golf course, where I play a lot of golf, to fly my Fun Cub. Its pretty well open but along the edges of the holes are a lot of tall Cottonwood trees. I had merrily been flying my cub when it tip stalled hard into the ground tearing off the main gear, which was from Fun Cub Parts, the double wire one. I reglued this back on and proceeded to fly again, ah it was beautiful. The plane was doing great until I decided to see how slow I could fly it at 10 feet off the ground. Guess what! You got it! It tip stalled again but this time I caught it in time, but it was flying towards those tall Cottonwoods. I pulled up on the elev. and having hit the throttle earlier, it immediately zoomed up about 35 ft. up in one of those trees and made a perfect carrier landing on and in a limb. If I didn't know better, I and my buddy spotter would have thought it was intentional including trapping in a crotch on that limb. After much discussion, and woe is me's we decided to go get some help. Nobody could help us so me n my buddy went over to the 19th hole at the golf course for what was, I thought, a highly desirable libation. In so doing the owner of this establishment at the course also had a part time handyman company and he would go over and check out my high strung airplane. This was on Tuesday and he finally got over to my landing spot on Saturday with his 40 ft ladder and couldn't find a firm purchase for the ladder to rest on. He said he would get in touch with a friend who ran a bucket lift for the local power Co. to come over and get it (the Plane) down but it wouldn't be until Monday. Six days in captivity. I was ready to have kittens!!!! Sunday the wind blew hard (gusts to 30 mph) and the plane and the limb blew down with the limb on top of it (this was lucky because if it hadn't been on top of the plane it probably would have blown into the next county). Another good friend, who was playing golf (wind 30 mph, temp 44 degrees) found the plane, called me on the phone and delivered it to my door. Losses equal one shot battery, eight horns and hinges on the wing torn off but still hanging on the wires, a few dents but was very easily repaired. Final thoughts: I think that me and to say the least the guy who was golfing on that Sunday are the spitting images of Forrest Gump: SIMPLE IS as SIMPLE DOES

Camera's and FunCub's seem to go hand in hand. However when I noticed that 98% of all my crashes were caught on camera I began to wonder if there was a correlation? I'm not sure if I'm flying different when I'm aware a camera is rolling or not, or if it's an effort to get something 'good' on video. Take the following for example - I guess I'll have to assess my flying habits when I get my baby back in the air! This appeared in my blog on RC Groups after my 'big' crash (which I also caught on video) hence the comment above. This time the camera was on a tripod and all that happened was a dented wing, broken strobe, and banged up pride but it was not to be the last (or most severe) of my flying indiscressions to be caught on camera!
