I placed this here because I couldn't start a new thread in the FunCub components & mods board. - Maybe it can get moved there later.
First off I have to say this was not my idea, Larry (eldoubleu on RC Groups) came up with this and several thread members (including me) followed suit.
Early in my experience with the FunCub thread there was talk about the new 'tall' vertical fin & rudder, my first FunCub had the new version so I never thought any more about it. Along came eldoubleu with a post (#18183 page 1213 on the RCG Multiplex FunCub thread) eldoubleu's rudder mod with his newly finished (and I might add very nice) FunCub featuring a cut down & reprofiled vertical fin & rudder. Discussion on the mod starts on the linked page and he gives a good discription on how to do it. Several members have performed this scale(ish) mod and have reported no ill effects!
After researching a bit further, we found out why. The original FunCub fin/rudder was not only shorter but had a narrower chord as well (see photo) so removing 1" off the top isn't reducing the area too drastically. I've shortened the tails on both my FunCubs now and will post my take on the handling after I fly it this weekend.
